Venice property for sale – Restored 15th-century historic palazzo with walled garden, rooftop terrace, mooring and water access in the Sestiere Cannaregio district.
Venetian Palazzo for sale – Sestiere Cannaregio
The palazzo has six storeys and a surface area of 2,856 square metres (30,741 square feet).
The piano nobile and second floor include a classic Venetian tripartite plan, with a central corridor (known as portego) on either side of which are large rooms (lounges and bedrooms at the owner’s choosing) decorated with beautiful 18th-century plaster, marble portals, and antique briar doors with mouldings.
The main entrance is on Salizada Seriman, however, there are two auxiliary side entrances as well as a water gate on Rio dei Gozzi.
The ground floor has Istrian stone and Verona red marble floors, while the upper floors feature Venetian floors and parquet.
The rooftop terrace (55 sqm – 592 sqft) provides a one-of-a-kind and incomparable view of Venice’s roofs and lovely canals.
A large walled garden (781 sqm – 8,403 sqft) with direct access from the Rio dei Gesuiti is located behind the palace.
The palace was erected “a few years before 1466 by architect Pietro Como on the Dolce family’s commission.
It then passed to the Gozzi and Contarini families, and from there to the Seriman, an Armenian family that arrived in Venice in the late 17th century and “acquired” nobility by providing massive economic aid to the Venetian Republic against the Ottomans (amounting to around 72,000 ducats).
The massive structure is a typical transitional palazzo, blending late Venetian Gothic elements with more elegant Renaissant elements.
On the façades, three-lobed pointed arches and twisted columns contrast with the regular distribution of openings, classical capitals, and characteristic 16th-century windows on the mezzanine.
The structure leads us to believe that the palazzo once had a C-shaped design with a courtyard and stairway rather than the current appearance.
The back garden was built on the site of Palazzo Venier (demolished in the 19th century).
The Santa Lucia train station is just 1.7 kilometres from the palazzo, making it simple to go to the mainland by train. Otherwise, the palazzo has a dedicated berth and is easily accessible from the canal.
